LGBT Rights are a natural fit for MainStream's moderate, "church-state" separation perspective. Think about it: have you ever heard a secular argument made against civil rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans? No, typically a religious argument is made with full public policy implications. While strongly defending the rights of any relgiious sect to make its own determinations about such issues, MainStream believes that our secular democracy supports the ideal of full equality.
Since fighting to defeat the 2005 so-called "marriage amendment" in Kansas, MainStream has seen LGBT civil rights increase as an issue of importance and interest to our members.
