The MAINstream Coalition is not alone in our efforts to counteract the activities of the far religious right. We are part of a larger stream of activism, and we have many colleagues across the country. MAINstream Friends are organizations that support our principles, and who are perhaps doing much the same advocacy as we are, whether in our area or in another part of the country. Our coalition is a member of many of the organizations that you will find listed here. Check out our friends, visit their sites to see what a broad range of civic activism is taking place in the progressive and moderate world:
Kansas Alliance for Education - The Kansas Alliance for Education (KAE) is a nonpartisan grassroots organization formed in 2005 for the purpose of promoting the election of candidates to the Kansas State Board of Education who support quality education for all Kansas children.
Johnson Countians for Justice - Johnson Countians for Justice is a non-partisan committee dedicated to keeping special interest politics out of our courts.
True Blue Women - True Blue gathers progressive women to advocate social change, provide education and promote camaraderie.
Kansas Families United for Public Education - KFUPE educates the general public on issues related to public education. Their Executive Director and members across the state monitor legislation that affects public schools in Kansas. They also monitor the decisions made by the State Board of Education as well as local school boards to insure the children of Kansas are receiving a quality education.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State - Based in Washington, D.C., it is a non-partisan, multi-faith organization, recognized as the leading opposition voice to the Religious Right.
People for the American Way - From Washington, they are defending pluralism and individual freedom of thought, expression, and religion. Check out their Right Wing Watch Online.
The Interfaith Alliance - A faith-based group, established by religious leaders of many faith traditions, that has come together to stand up to the growing and ominous power and influence of the Christian Coalition and other religious extremist groups and individuals. These are deeply committed men and women of faith who will not be silent when political extremists try to seize for their own narrow purposes the language and symbols of religious faith. They have almost 100,000 members, nation-wide, and Walter Cronkite is their perennial spokesman.
Kansas Citizens for Science - Formation of this group was triggered by the recent adoption of science (sub) standards for Kansas public schools by the State Board of Education. This is an educational and activist site for concerned teachers and parents, all those who decry the religious and political ideologies that have entered our public education arena.
Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice - Its mission is to bring the moral power of religious communities to ensure reproductive choice through education and advocacy.
Texas Freedom Network - Based in Austin, its mission is to "balance the influence of the Religious Right in the public dialogue over public education and individual and religious liberties in America."
