MainStream Coalition Engagement Intern

Position Overview

The engagement intern will have three primary responsibilities:

Walk the Vote – MainStream’s annual walk is a fundraiser-friendraiser to raise awareness about the importance of being an informed and engaged voter and to build the community of activists.

  • Work with staff and the Walk the Vote Committee to coordinate logistics; recruit, support and follow-up with team captains; and provide general administrative and technical support.
  • Research and solicit event sponsors. Work with teams to ensure our fundraising goals are met.
  • Develop a social media plan for the event across multiple platforms, utilizing compelling stories, video, and other best practices.
  • Develop and implement strategies to expand the current base and engage new and diverse constituencies.

Social Media

  • Develop a social media plan that expands on current activities.
  • Monitor online engagement and provide technical support and information to those in our network.
  • Expand current presence across additional platforms.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to engage new networks.
  • Ensure content aligns with brand and position statements
  • Assist with production of creative content, including copy, images and video, for social media and digital channels.

Candidate Research

  • Conduct outreach to candidates.
  • Research candidate position statements, review candidate surveys and track information.

Other duties as assigned

Successful candidate will have:

  • Understanding and commitment to the mission of the MainStream Coalition.
  • Knowledge of Kansas political dynamics. Able to engage politically in a nonpartisan framework.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Solid organization skills; detail-oriented, ability to meet deadlines
  • Able to work within a team environment but with limited direct day-to-day supervision.
  • Creative, results-oriented, self-starting, and willing to learn.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, but not required

Compensation

This internship can be as short as 4 months and as long as 10 months.
$10/hour, 20 hours/week
