Mainstream is dedicated to creating a more representative and responsive government by empowering informed participation and meaningful action in the political process. For over 25 years we have worked to educate, engage, and activate voters to stand against political extremism and guard against the encroachment of religious doctrine in the public space. After a decade of strong growth, we are poised to radically impact the political landscape of Kansas with a committed network of supporters, a cutting edge relational voter engagement program, statewide digital tools and a clear voice advocating for all Kansans.
Mainstream is made up of three affiliate organizations with distinct but complementary goals. Together, we aim to realize our shared vision of a Kansas political system that represents all of its constituents:
- Mainstream Coalition is a 501(c)(4) nonpartisan political advocacy organization. We work with our members and partners in Topeka and communities across the state to influence legislation that results in equitable representation and sustainable public policy for all Kansans.
- The Voter Network is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan nonprofit organization. Through partnerships with organizations and individuals, we inform, engage and connect Kansans through nonpartisan voter education and effective voter turnout efforts.
- MainPAC is a nonpartisan political action committee. We directly support campaigns and candidates who align with the values and priorities of Mainstream Coalition.
Position Overview
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will be responsible for managing social media, maintaining website content, developing and executing a marketing calendar, and creating print and digital content across the Mainstream organizations. Content includes graphics, promotional materials, social media posts, videos, website updates, emails, and program support collateral.

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will join a small but passionate team working to increase civic engagement, educate voters, and advocate for equitable representation in government. Essential Job Duties
- Execute a well thought out content calendar to increase organization awareness, membership and supporter engagement
- Collaborate with team members to design digital and print collateral that supports programming, events, and fundraising initiatives
- Develop timely reports on performance monitoring of the websites and social media platforms
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- An understanding of and belief in the mission, vision and positions of Mainstream Coalition affiliates
- Ability to engage politically in a nonpartisan framework
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment with limited day-to-day supervision and flexibility in assignments and schedule, including some nights and weekends
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
- A clear understanding of digital marketing trends and experience with all main digital and social communication channels with creative design experience
- Willingness to pitch in when/where needed

- Advocacy and/or electoral experience
- Fluency in Spanish
Compensation & Benefits
This is a part time position, requiring 20-30 hours per week. Mainstream staff are primarily based in northeast Kansas, but candidates from any location in the state are encouraged to apply. Staff work remotely, travel within the state may be required. This compensation package is competitive with sector norms:
- Rate of Pay: $18 per hour
- Phone/internet stipend of $100/month
- Mileage reimbursement at the current IRS rate for travel outside of a 60-mile radius
- Flexible work schedule
