Celebrating Cheryl - Our 2024 Stand Up, Speak Out Honoree

Mainstream Civic Engagement Foundation is proud to recognize our friend and partner, Rev. Cheryl Jefferson Bell, as this year's Stand-Up, Speak Out Honoree at the GOTV Brunch Fundraiser on September 8.

PASTOR CHERYL IS AN UNDENIABLE FORCE FOR GOOD IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES.

Pastor Cheryl is an associate pastor at Resurrection, a United Methodist Church, based out of Leawood. She served in Congregational Care for almost 8 years and is currently serving as Pastor of Community Justice, since June 2020! For over four years in the role, she has led community action on housing and homelessness, voting and reproductive rights, racial justice, civic engagement, and LGBTQ+ equality. She has served as either the first African American and/or woman in her Kansas appointments as an ordained Elder in the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church. Pastor Cheryl is also is a leader in the Good Faith Network, an interfaith justice ministry that draws together nearly 30 congregations from 3 faith traditions to advocate for systemic change on behalf of the most vulnerable.

Stand Up, Speak Out

Since 2001, Mainstream has proudly hosted its annual GOTV fundraising event to uphold and celebrate these values:

  • Deep respect for the inherent rights, beliefs, and freedoms of every individual.
  • Bravery to champion justice and equality, even when it means standing alone.
  • Commitment to active participation in the political process to safeguard these essential rights.

These core principles are honored through the Robert H. Meneilly Stand Up, Speak Out Award, named in tribute to our founding chairman, lovingly known as Dr. Bob. The Stand Up, Speak Out award recognizes individuals who exemplify these ideals in their work and lives.
