Communications Specialist

The MainStream Coalition is hiring a full-time Communications Specialist through the end of 2018, with the possibility of being extended to a permanent position after that. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day ongoing communications of the MainStream Coalition, from social media presence and community building, to news posting and voter education. The Communications Specialist will report to the Director of Communications, but will be expected to work independently within the guidelines of MainStream’s communications plan.

This is an exciting opportunity to effect real change in Kansas politics, working to engage Kansans in advocacy for public education, healthy communities, good governance and sustainable fiscal policy. The right individual will join a small team of staff working with a broadly-based Board of Directors to make a difference in the lives of all Kansans.

Job duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily attention to Kansas political news
  • Daily social media posting and curation
  • Creation of graphical or other media content
  • Drafting of statements, positions, and other written materials
  • Community relations
  • Compilation and analysis of media analytics
  • Other duties to be assigned

Candidate requirements are:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience creating and managing content across multiple platforms
  • Solid grasp of the issues and nuances of Kansas politics
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Experience with graphic design, video, and internet services
  • Local to NE Johnson County

Salary is expected to be between the high twenties and low thirties, commensurate with experience. MainStream is a flexible and family-friendly workplace.
