The Heartland Coalition Against Gun Violence and Moms Demand Action-MO are hosting
Kansas City Vigil for Newtown
On Wednesday, Dec. 14, a special event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain just east of the Country Club Plaza. Kansas Citians are invited to attend this demonstration/vigil, which will recognize the 4th Anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre which took the lives of 20 young children and six school staff members.
The event also will serve as a grim reminder that an estimated 120,000 Americans have died because of gun violence in the last four years, and recognize their loss.
The event is sponsored by the Heartland Coalition Against Gun Violence and Moms Demand Action. MainStream Coalition is one of the 38 organizations who are part of the Heartland Coalition.
Alvin Brooks, a longtime civil rights leader and former Kansas City mayor pro tem, is the keynote speaker. The Kansas City Boys and Girls Chorus will perform at 5:30 PM.
The Dec. 14 event is a clear reminder that it makes sense to strongly support common sense gun regulations that could keep weapons out of the hands of people who should not have them, preventing thousands of future deaths and injuries.
The community is invited and encouraged to bring signs supporting common sense gun laws and an end to gun violence. Two hundred candles will be available…or individuals can bring their own.
