ALERT - Encourage Sen. LaTurner and Committee to Support Campus Carry Repeal

This is a second action on Kansas Senate Bill 53, the repeal of campus carry. Yesterday, we asked you to thank Senator Faust-Goudeau, who supports this bill, and hundreds of you responded.

Today, we are asking you to contact the Chairman (and the rest of the Committee) to urge support of SB 53.

A hearing is being held tomorrow morning (Thursday) in the Kansas Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs. This bill would repeal the campus carry provision of Kansas' concealed carry firearms law. As the law stands now, on July 1, 2017, concealed firearms will be allowed on Kansas university and college campuses, in hospitals, and in mental institutions. College is a stressful experience, full of growth opportunities and setbacks. Requiring that our universities allow loaded, concealed weapons in classrooms, dorms, offices and public areas is dangerous. In hospitals and other patient care institutions it makes even less sense.

  • Call Chairman LaTurner's office at (785) 296-7370 and leave this short message (or one of your own):

"My name is _______ and I am calling to thank Senator LaTurner for bringing SB 53 up for a hearing, and to ask him for his support in sending this bill to the full Senate for a vote. Our college and university campuses need to be safe places for young people to learn and grow. Thank you."

Here is the committee page if you want to call individual members, too!

And thank you for doing more than voting.
