ALERT - Urge the House Committee to pass repeal of campus carry

You've sent hundreds of emails to the Kansas Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs, asking for their support in repealing the campus carry provisions in Kansas law. Now, it is time to work on the Kansas House of Representatives.

Today, we are asking you to contact the Chairman (and select members of the House Committee) to urge support of HB 2074.

A hearing is being held tomorrow morning (Wednesday) in the Kansas House Committee on Federal and State Affairs. This bill would repeal the campus carry provision of Kansas' concealed carry firearms law. As the law stands now, on July 1, 2017, concealed firearms will be allowed on Kansas university and college campuses, in hospitals, and in mental institutions. College is a stressful experience, full of growth opportunities and setbacks. Requiring that our universities allow loaded, concealed weapons in classrooms, dorms, offices and public areas is dangerous. In hospitals and other patient care institutions it makes even less sense.

Actions:

and/or

  • Call Chairman Barker's office at (785) 296-7674 (this is the correct number, now) and leave this short message (or one of your own):

"My name is _______ and I am calling to thank Representative Barker for bringing HB 2074 up for a hearing, and to ask him for his support in sending this bill to the full House for a vote. Our college and university campuses need to be safe places for young people to learn and grow. Thank you."

and/or

  • Call members of the Committee (there are 23 of them!) with the same message. Here is a link to the Committee page with their names, click each one to get their contact information.

And thank you for doing more than voting.
