KS Election Day FAQ

Have questions about how to vote today, or know someone who does? Make sure to share our Election Day FAQ graphics (just right click and save or share our Facebook post) and be prepared to cast your ballot before polls close at 7:00 pm.

  • Where do I vote?
  • If I’m in line when the polls close at 7:00 pm, can I still vote?
    • YES! Don’t get out of line until you vote.
  • What kind of photo ID do I need to show?
    • There are several approved forms of ID, but they must have your name, photo, and not be expired. Here is the complete list provided by the Kansas Secretary of State:
      • A driver’s license or nondriver’s identification card issued by Kansas or by another state or district of the United States;
      • A concealed carry of handgun license issued by Kansas or a concealed carry of handgun or weapon license issued by another state or district of the United States;
      • A United States passport;
      • An employee badge or identification document issued by a municipal, county, state, or federal government office;
      • A military identification document issued by the United States;
      • A student identification card issued by an accredited postsecondary institution of education in the state of Kansas;
      • A public assistance identification card issued by a municipal, county, state or federal government office; and
      • An identification card issued by an Indian tribe.
  • I requested a mail ballot but never got it. What do I do?
    • Check VoterView to see if it was mailed. If so, let your poll worker know and vote provisional.
    • If your ballot wasn’t mailed and you are able to do so, vote in-person at your normal polling location
  • I’ve been turned away or see something questionable at the polls. What do I do?
    • Call the ACLU Election Protection Line:
      • 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) (EN)
      • 888-VE-Y-VOTA (888-839-8682) (SP)
  • When will we have election results and where can I find them?
    • This year we may have to wait for several days to get presidential election results. Don’t be surprised if early results shift as more ballots come in.
    • Local results should come in faster and be available election night. Check your county election office and the Kansas SOS website for results.
    • The State Board of Canvassers will meet to certify election results for national and state offices no later than December 1.
  • I still have more questions.
