Testimony to House Committee on K-12 Education Budget
Chair, Rep. Larry Campbell
Hearing: Wednesday, February 15, 2017, 1:30 pm, Room 346-S

Position – SUPPORT HB 2270

Chairman Campbell, and Members of the Committee,

The MainStream Coalition supports passage of HB 2270, as it provides a responsible, flexible, and complete plan for the financing of public schools in Kansas.

This plan takes into account the complexities of funding a system as diverse as the Kansas public schools, while also assuring a level of funding that keeps up with economic changes, and recognizing the critical importance of early childhood education.

This plan is not encumbered by unproven theories about educational performance measures, or decidedly unconstitutional efforts to put off a funding solution. Instead, HB2270 uses a formula that is proven to work well when adequately funded.

We encourage your thoughtful review of this plan as we look at creating a public school funding solution that will support ALL children.

Thank you,

Ed Peterson
Vice-President of the Board
