Have you purchased your tickets to our GOTV Gala?

We're limiting in-person attendance, so it's important to get your tickets now to reserve your spot. You won't want to miss our featured guest, Academy Award winner Kevin Willmott. Prefer to attend virtually? We're offering you that option, too. More details on virtual tickets coming soon, but tickets can be purchased today.

To keep you safe we're asking that individuals attending in person will be required to wear masks and be fully vaccinated. Please be prepared to show proof of vaccination for entry into the event.

If you are not fully vaccinated or prefer not to share your vaccination status, you are invited to join us for a livestream of the program (more information coming soon). Additionally, anyone who is exhibiting any symptoms of illness or believes they may have been exposed to COVID-19 is also asked to participate in the event virtually.

It's election season!

This November we'll be voting in many important municipal elections. Based on your answers to our survey results we'll be highlighting the following races with candidate forums (beginning in later September):

  • Boards of education: Blue Valley, Kansas City, KS, Olathe and Shawnee Mission school districts
  • WaterOne Board in Johnson County
  • Kansas City, KS Board of Public Utilities

To help you make the most informed decisions before you head to the polls, Mainstream Coalition, The League of Women Voters of Johnson County, and partner organizations are pleased to co-sponsor these candidate forums for the 2021 General Election.

All forums will be held virtually via Zoom. Please register to reserve your spot for each forum.

Many organizations are highlighting other key races in our areas. We will keep you informed so you can also attend those forums.

And don't forget! Check your voter registration today to make sure everything is current. The last day to register to vote in the November election is October 12th. Check out The Voter Network for election dates and information on voter registration.

COVID-19 and Schools: Last week, the Wellington, KS school district shut its doors, stopped sports and all other school-related activities until September 7th in response to a widespread outbreak of COVID-19. Due to legislation passed last Spring by the #ksleg. Legislation that limits remote learning to 40 hours per student or schools risk losing more than half of state funding for that student, the district is not offering remote learning. This could be the first district to be impacted by legislation that Mainstream and other groups fought all session. We'll keep watching as districts return to class and begin to release their COVID data.

SB40 Ruling: SB40, another bill passed last Spring, that allows parents, students and employees to challenge remote learning or any school policy they don’t like was also in the news. The KS Supreme Court issued a stay to the decision by a Johnson County judge who struck down the law in July. What does this mean? Counties that have issued mask mandates could face challenges by citizens similar to what school districts faced this Spring. The Governor's powers to protect the state during a pandemic have also been strongly curtailed (again). The KS Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of the bill sometime in September.

We rely on the support of individual Kansans to organize, advocate and react to the Kansas Legislature. Help us continue to fight for Kansans. Become a Mainstream member for just $35.

**Mainstream Coalition, The Voter Network and MainPAC encourage civic engagement, however, we do not in any way represent ourselves as election officials.**
